WJEC Entry Level Mathematics Numeracy Past Papers

WJEC Entry Level Mathematics Numeracy is designed for learners in Wales who are developing their mathematical skills at the level needed for everyday life, employment, and progression to GCSE Mathematics – Numeracy. The qualification reflects the Welsh national curriculum's emphasis on the numeracy component of mathematics: applying mathematical skills to real, practical contexts rather than abstract problem-solving. The assessment covers number and operations (counting, reading and writing whole numbers, addition and subtraction of whole numbers and simple decimals, multiplication and division facts, understanding money and making change), measurement (using standard units of length, mass, and capacity; reading scales; understanding time and using clocks and calendars), data and statistics (reading simple tables, charts, and pictograms; extracting specific information from data displays), and spatial reasoning (recognising basic 2D and 3D shapes and their properties; understanding simple directions and maps). All questions are set in familiar, everyday Welsh contexts — shopping in a local market, reading bus timetables, following a recipe, reading a weather chart for different parts of Wales — to make the mathematics meaningful and accessible. The qualification is widely used in Welsh secondary schools in alternative curriculum provision and in further education colleges as a gateway qualification toward GCSE study.
